Mental Health Check Ups
How are you, really?
Many of us have learned the past few years that our mental health is not something we can ignore. Just like our physical health, if we leave our mental health unchecked, it can cause an incredible amount of damage.
A Mental Health Check-up may be the right fit for you if:
As a therapist, I want to see more normalized access to mental health care.
Just as we attend to our physical, dental, and visual health every year, there’s no reason why we should not include our mental health care too. It is normal, it is universal. And the sooner we address it, the sooner we feel better.
You don’t have to have a mental illness to attend to your mental health. You don’t have to wait until you are in crisis in order to receive help. You can be proactive and preventative now.
Maybe you’re kind of curious to see what therapy is all about but ongoing weekly therapy sounds like a big commitment.
Maybe your partner, spouse or friend keeps telling you you’d benefit from therapy but you’re not totally convinced.
Maybe it’s a little vulnerable to think about seeing someone once a week but starting out with 1 or 2 sessions sounds more manageable.
Maybe you wish you could participate in weekly therapy, but just don’t have the time or resource.
Maybe you’ve been through therapy before and don’t necessarily feel the need to see someone weekly again, but it would be nice every once in awhile to check in to make sure you’re keeping up with all of the takeaways that were beneficial for you.
Maybe you want to treat your mental health like you treat your physical health, and therefore want to reserve services like this in place to take a preventative and proactive stance toward taking care of your mental health.
What does a Mental Health Check-up include?
Evaluation (diagnostic impression, observation, reflection)
Symptom management (any new symptoms? how well are you managing?)
Attunement (how is your self care, is your body showing signs of wear/tear?)
Elements of health (how well are you managing other areas of health?)
Needs assessment (What do you need right now?)
Priority shifts (Boundaries and Prioritization)
Systemic Contributions (Social determinants of health and relevant variables)
Gratitude (what have I learned about myself, my strengths and limitations, and want to carry into the next chapter?)
Helpful resources, coping skills, and homework assignments (if desired)
Recommendations & Referrals for more frequent care (if indicated)
Please understand that Mental Health Check-ups are brief, one time, episodes of care and are limited in scope and duration.
Mental health Check-ups are not to be confused or substituted for ongoing individual therapy.
Upon our first check-up, we will form a mental health wellness plan which will include recommendations and referrals. You will receive a fully comprehensive After Visit Summary with a note of what we discussed in session combined with resources, referrals, and recommendations. Clients will then be discharged as this completes the episode of care.
Should clients return for more visits throughout the year, it will simply mean them signing another consent form. As you will be discharged following each appointment, you will no longer be considered a client nor on my caseload between episodes.
Fees for Mental Health Therapy Checkups:
Initial check-up (resets annually) - $250/90 minute session
Subsequent check-ins (up to 6 yearly) - $200/60 minute session
Because this is a wellness assessment and diagnostic impression and NOT individual therapy, I do not bill insurance for this service. However, I am happy to provide you with a Superbill/Invoice/Receipt with applicable CPT code you can submit to your insurance or HSA for possible reimbursement. It is your responsibility to understand your insurance benefits and coverage. Please let me know if I can answer any questions.
